Two highly motivated students are sought for either of the following
PhD projects:

* Evolution of Cellular Networks (EBB-09PH04-NTW):
In this project, the modular evolution of biochemical networks,
mostly signalling networks in plants and genetic networks will
be investigated using genomic and transcriptomic data analysis.
For earlier research see e.g:
Amoutzias G et al. EMBO Reports 5:274-279, (2004)

* Genome Analysis of Sea Grasses (EBB-09PH06-ZMG):
In this project, which is an international collaboration with
groups from across the world, we aim at a better understanding
of how and why sea-grasses decline as a result of global warming
by analysing their genome and their transcriptomes.
Pursuit of these goals will include genome analysis of the big
sea grass Zostera marina which is currently being sequenced by
JGI and transcriptomic analysis of 454 data from northern vs.
southern populations of Zostera marina and Zostera noltii with
and without heat stress in our unique mesocosm facility, the

Essential qualifications are:

* MSc or 4yr BSc degree (or equivalent) in biology, biochemistry,
physics or bioinformatics and research experience in a
biological area
* Basic skills in statistics and programming
* Good communication skills, fluency in English

Best qualified candidates will be endorsed for fellowship applications
to which we currently have a 100% (4 out of 4) success rate.

Interested candidates should send applications to Prof. Bornberg-Bauer
ebb[at]uni-muenster.de as pdf attachment (max. 2 pages) detailing:
education + degrees with dates, posts held, list of peer reviewed
publications, 2-3 names of potential referees and a short statement
of research interest or via surface mail to:

Prof. Dr. Erich Bornberg-Bauer
Institut for Evolution and Biodiversity,
Westfälische Wilhelms Universität Münster
Hüfferstrasse 1, D-48149 Münster, Germany

CLOSING DATE is September 30th 2009.
Commencing date is flexible, with Jan. 1st 2009 being preferred.

PhD positions are usually paid according to the TVL scheme but
stipends can also be obtained. Teaching and administrative duties
are generally low, with amount and balance depending on the
particular project as well as background, qualifications and
experience of candidates.
