A PhD student position is available as of 1.2.2010 in the group of Dr. Luka Cicin-Sain at the Helmholtz Center for Infectious Research (HZI) in Braunschweig. HZI is a member of the Helmholtz Association, Germany's largest scientific organization, employs elite cell and structural biologists, microbiologists and immunologists and possesses extraordinary facilities and high-end research platforms. The multidisciplinary environment and the on-campus graduate school provide excellent conditions for scientific development of young scientists.

The focus of the Cicin-Sain group is on mechanisms of chronic herpesviral infections, and on their interaction with the immune system. The group combines unique genetic methods and advanced flow cytometry to study the interactions between viruses and the immune system.

We expect a master degree in life sciences (biology, biotechnology, medical sciences, biochemistry) Candidates about to earn their degree are welcome to apply, high motivation and interest in infection biology, genetics and/or immunology, creativity and interest to shape your own thesis project, an integrative and cooperative personality, very good communication skills in English (instruction language at
the Helmholtz graduate school)
