2 positions for PhD students for the characterization of target antigens in autoimmune skin blistering diseases and the development of novel therapeutic strategies for these disorders at the Department of Dermatology in Lübeck, Germany, within the Excellence Cluster Inflammation@Interfaces. Despite the advances in our understanding of autoimmune bullous disorders, many details in their pathogenesis are still unknown. Furthermore, specific therapeutic interventions for these diseases are lacking. The aim of one project is to further characterize the fine specificities of autoantibodies and explore their pathogenic potential. The other project will address the development of a specific adsorber to remove pathogenic autoantibodies from the circulation of patients. The work will involve protein chemistry including molecular biology, expression and purification of proteins, Western blotting, ELISA, cell culture, and, to a smaller part, experiments with mouse models. We are lookin!
g for 2 candidates interested in autoimmune disorders who are highly motivated and would like to join our international team. The candidates must be fluent in English. The positions are available starting June 15, 2009 for 36 months. Individualized applications should be sent by email to Prof. Zillikens (c/o This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
