Our group is interested in studying the formation of aberrant polypeptide states (amyloid fibrils) is diseases, such as Alzheimer's. In the advertised position we will investigate the effects of naturally occurring, sequential variations of Alzheimer's Abeta-Peptide on the structural and biological properties of this peptide. This work aims to generate information about the molecular basis of Alzheimer's disease.

Our group is located at the Max-Planck Unit "Enzymology of Protein Folding". The Max-Planck Society promotes internationally competitive basic research and provides an excellent working environment.

To that end we are using several state of the art biophysical and structural techniques, including FTIR, NMR, X-ray, Electron Microscopy, CD, as well as biological methods: Cell culture, cytotoxicity, fluorescence microscopy, long term potentiation measurements.
