The Institute of Experimental Internal Medicine offers a position in an interdisciplinary Systems Biology project for 1 PhD (E13/2,TV-L).

The project focuses on the experimental and theoretical analysis of the NF-kappaB signal transduction network with a special emphasis on the response to genotoxic stress. The PhD thesis will involve mathematical modelling of the dynamics of NF-kappaB signalling as well as developing techniques for the quantification of real-time single-cell fluorescence microscopy data.

Applicants with a strong mathematical or engineering background are encouraged to apply. Basic knowledge about molecular processes is an advantage. The PhD project will be thoroughly supervised.

The institute coordinates and participates in a variety of coordinated programs funded by the German Research Foundation (GRK1167, SPP1365, FOR521, SFB779), the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (SysTec) and the European Union (Marie Curie Research Training Networks). Further, the institute is member of the interdisciplinary "Research Center Dynamic Systems in Biology/Medicine and Process Engineering" and the "Magdeburg Center for Biomolecular System Dynamics and Regulation" funded by the Federal State of Saxony-Anhalt within the "Excellence Program" and by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research within the „FORSYS“ program "Research Units in Systems Biology".

The Otto von Guericke University wishes to increase the proportion of female academic personnel. Women are therefore explicitly encouraged to apply. Handicapped persons with equivalent qualification will be given preference.
