Our lab studies the function of keratins in skin development and disease, using genetically altered mice and keratinocytes. We have recently identified a novel role of keratins in the control of protein biosynthesis (JCB 187, 175-184, 2009).
Now, we offer 2 PhD positions to identify molecular mechanisms by which keratins control cell adhesion and cell metabolism. The first one focuses on early stages of skin development in the mouse, the second one on postnatal development. Both projects employ mouse genetics and keratinocyte culture.
We are looking for applicants with excellent knowledge in molecular and cell biology or biochemistry. Expertise in confocal microscopy and an interest in mouse genetics are highly desirable.
Candidates from abroad are welcome. They should hold first class degrees in one of the above subjects and be fluent in English. Our group is well connected to local, national and international collaborators and provides first class education.
