PhD positions in molecular aging research

Funded by the german reseach foundation (DFG)

We are looking for highly motivated persons with interest in molecular biology and biochemical research at the interface of basal transcription mechanisms and molecular aging research. The research topics of our small group with intense supervision encompasses transcription by RNA polymerases I and II and consequences of mutations in basal transcription factors for transcription and the cell. As mutations in basal transcription/DNA repair factors are followed by “accelerated” aging like Cockayne syndrome or Werner syndrome, we would like to understand how altered gene expression influences the pathogenesis of this diseases or may even cause “accelerated aging”.
Aging research is a growing field in biology (overview Nature, 464,7288) and as it addresses a central problem in aging societies- how can we achieve healthy aging?- it is supported by the German Research Foundation (DFG).
