The Research Training Group (RTG 1644) on "Scaling Problems in Statistics", funded by the German Science Foundation (DFG)
seeks applicants for 1 PhD Position in Microbial Ecology and Statistics, starting October 1, 2010.

The project will deal with scales of bacterial interactions on the leaf surface. The successful applicant holds a master degree in Ecological Sciences, Microbiology, Plant Sciences, Biomathematics or a related field with a high interest in spatial statistics, microbiological lab techniques, microscopy, ecological concepts, and/or simulation modelling. This project is based at the University of Göttingen, Germany, but will involve 6 months of research in the lab of Prof. Dr. Johan Leveau at UC Davis, USA (http://plantpathology.ucdavis.edu/faculty/leveau/).


The highly interdisciplinary Research Training Group aims at solving current questions in the area of spatial ecology and other areas of applied statistics. It distinguishes itself through a structured graduation programme, joint supervision, and a study program consisting of methodologically oriented lectures and interdisciplinary research seminars. The salary is in accordance with the German state regulated public service salary scale (75 % E 13 TV-L).
