The Leibniz-Institut für Analytische Wissenschaften - ISAS - e.V. is located in Dortmund and Berlin. Besides scientific activities in the development of new or improved measuring meth-ods and analytical separation techniques as well as spectroscopy and spectrometric equip-ment in modern analysis, research is undertaken in the areas of spectroscopic methods and analytical contributions to solving problems in the fields of materials and life sciences.

For our department of Bioanalytics in Dortmund, ISAS invites applications for a

PhD position in quantitative proteomics (m/f)

As a member of the Bioanalytics research team you will use state-of-the-art quantitative proteomics techniques to assess the regulation of protein processing in the endoplasmic reticulum in a genetic disease. Methods that will be applied comprise (1) techniques for quantitative mass spectrometry like SILAC (stable isotope labeling of amino acids in cell culture), iTRAQTM (isobaric tag for relative and absolute quantiation), label-free quantitation (based on high mass accuracy and selected reaction monitoring), (2) membrane proteomics and (3) chromatographic techniques like COFRADIC (combined fractional diagonal chromatography) with a focus on post-translational modifications.
The successful applicant will have a strong background in biochemistry, chemistry or biology, a willingness to be involved in cutting-edge research strategies and will be highly motivated as well as interested in life-sciences and analytical research. We expect self-initiative, passion, responsibility and the ability to work in an interdisciplinary team. He/she must hold a Masters, Diploma or equivalent degree in science or engineering that allows direct admission for doctoral studies in Germany. The degree should include an experimental research experience of at least four months. Basic knowledge in proteomics / mass spectrometry and cell culture are preferable. Applications by those awaiting the award of their degree are most welcome.
Non-residents who apply for this job will receive help from the institute to find accommo-dation. Applications from handicapped applicants are welcome. ISAS supports the principle of equal opportunity between men and women, and is therefore interested in applications from women.

The salary will be according to the German TV-L. This position is a 60% part-time work and available for 36 months starting from 1st of September 2010.
