The successful applicant will work at the Institute for Mathematics and Computer Science in Greifswald. It is a part time position at 50% time limited to 3 years. Half of the funding of the position is coming
from the University of Greifswald, the other half from a DFG grant to the University of Göttingen (see http://ibeetle.uni-goettingen.de).

Our group is working among other topics on the development of models (HMMs, Conditional Random Fields) and algorithms in the area of genome annotation, next generation sequencing, the quantification of transcripts and the modelling of protein families for gene prediction. Our group develops the gene finder AUGUSTUS.

The position requires to do services in research and teaching. The employee will be assigned tasks that are suitable as preparation for obtaining a doctorate. A possible dissertation topic can be from the area of eukaryotic genome annotation. The position further entails teaching (1h/week) as part of the Biomathematics study course. Knowledge or interest in the following topics is desired: gene finding, Hidden Markov Models, splicing, C++, Linux, Perl.

Prerequisite: Masters, Diplom or equivalent in Bioinformatics, Mathematics, Computer Science or a related field.
