The International Graduate Program „Lung Biology and Disease“ in the field of translational pulmonary medicine is offering:

Full-time Doctoral Fellowships

The Comprehensive Pneumology Center (CPC; www.cpc-munich.org), a translational research center dedicated to pulmonary medicine, was recently founded by three partners: The Helmholtz Zentrum München – German Research Center for Environmental Health, an expert in bridging fundamental experimental research with applied medical research, the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität (LMU) with the University Hospital, one of the Top-Level-Universities in the German Excellence Initiative, and the Asklepios Hospital München-Gauting, one of the leading hospitals specialized on lung disease in Germany.

The International Graduate Program „Lung Biology and Disease“ is the premier educational platform at the CPC and is now seeking highly qualified and motivated individuals for the following topics:

•Project A: Mechanisms of epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition in chronic lung disease. Supervisor: Oliver Eickelberg
•Project B: Immunoproteasome function in COPD, Supervisor: Silke Meiners
•Project C: Characterization of the fibroproliferative and immune response in bronchiolitis obliterans. Supervisors: Jürgen Behr, Marion Frankenberger
•Project D: Phenotyping the alveolar macrophage during transition from acute to chronic lung inflammation, Supervisor: Tobias Stöger
•Project E: The involvement of IL-17 in the immunopathogenesis of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), Supervisor: Ali Önder Yildirim
•Project F: Dendritic cell-expressed matrix metalloproteases: Potential targets for the treatment of bronchiolitis obliterans, Supervisor: Werner von Wulffen
•Project G: Smoking-induced mutations of the bronchial epithelium, Supervisor: Matthias Wjst
•Project H: Novel nanomedicines for chronic lung diseases, Supervisors: Ernst Wagner, Otmar Schmid
•Project I: Role of microRNAs in the development of lung tissue remodelling, Supervisor: Susanne Krauss-Etschmann
•Project J: Regulation of altered Wnt signaling in lung fibrosis, Supervisor: Melanie Königshoff
•Project K: Epidemiology of chronic lung disease, Supervisors: H.-Erich Wichmann, Oliver Eickelberg
•Project L: Systems biology of chronic lung disease, Supervisors: Hans-Werner Mewes, Oliver Eickelberg

The program is intended for selected applicants with a master’s degree (or equivalent) in biochemistry, biology, veterinary or human medicine, molecular biology, or related life-sciences and a commitment to a career in translational medical research.

Applicants should include a full CV, a statement of research interests, and the name and addresses of two references to be sent by E-Mail to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it (closing date September 15, 2010).
